Absztrakt
Dolgozatunkban amellett érvelünk, hogy az információs társadalom „individuális epizodikus”, tulajdonságok nélküli társadalom, szemben az iparival, amely „individuális diakronikus” volt. A 21. századi társadalmakban bekövetkező strukturális átalakulások, amelyeket a különböző alrendszerek – gazdasági, kulturális, politikai – összehangolt változásai idéznek elő (vö. Inglehart 1997), elavulttá teszik az individuumok leírására az ipari társadalomban használt általános fogalmakat. Ezzel összefüggésben az információs társadalom decentralizációja és magas fokú differenciáltsága használhatatlanná teszi a személyek és társadalmak önképének megfestésére használt jól bevált ipari társadalmi történeteket. Végezetül pedig Magyarország helyzetét elemezzük a tulajdonságok nélküli társadalmak tükrében.

Abstract
In our paper we argue that the information society is an ’individual episodic,’ characterless society, as opposed to the industrial one that could be called ’individual diachronic.’ The structural changes that are taking place in the 21st century societies – brought about by the intersecting transformations of economic, cultural, and political subsystems (cf. Inglehart 1997) – render obsolete all those concepts that had been used to describe the individual of the industrial society. In connection with this process we may observe that, as a result of decentralization and high level differentiation within the information society, the typical industrial society narratives are useless in trying to provide portraits of the self and the society. At the end of our paper we investigate the Hungarian case of developing characterless societies.
